Chic Cuisine at Zuri Restaurant

IMG_2967[1]

I was a guest at Zuri Restaurant in Auris Hotel, Al Barsha a few days back. Together with blogger friends, Carla (My Yellow Bells) and Gelo (Beyond Toxicity), we went to this 5 star Deluxe Hotel in what is called the “new business hub” of Dubai.  Sarah (On Cloud Zen) was already there when we arrived. I’ve been following her on twitter so I’m glad that I have finally met her in person!

“Chic Cuisine” – Ala Carte Dining Concept

Chic Cuisine is the creation of Executive Chef De Wet and Chef Abdul Aziz with their professional culinary team from seven different nationalities. They’ve spent over 3 months improving and developing the food to reflect modern contemporary Dubai.

Each signature dish and dessert are unnamed and presented by its key ingredients only. The menu is uploaded on an iPad so the guests can see a photo of the dish along with the description. Here are some of the items I ordered:

Crab, Tuna, Bean, Broth, Sweet Basil

Fried soft shell crab, pickled tuna, edamame bean, asian master broth and sweet basil oil. This is my first time to try soft shell crab and immediately fell in love with it!

Forgive me for I forgot to note down the name of this drink but this is the best mocktail I’ve had so far. It has Mango, Coconut, Passion Fruit and Chili. Yep, chili. I loved it so much that I recreated it at home! 😀

Beef Cheek Risotto Green Bean Peanut Garlic

This is the Chef’s favorite … Beef Cheek Risotto. I’m glad that I had this first because otherwise, I would have been full and wouldn’t have enjoyed it as much.

Short Ribs Tamarind Peanut Teriyaki Purple Yam Jasmine Sweet Potato

This dish takes 72 hours of slow cooking the short ribs which is then served with three different sauces – Tamarind, Peanut and Teriyaki Glaze. Purple yam cake infused with Jasmine Tea and sweet potato chips completes the dish.

Turbot, Crab, Truffle, Lotus Root, Pistachio, Cassava

By this time, I was already struggling. I liked the dish, but I wasn’t able to enjoy it because I was full already. I shouldn’t probably have gulped down 2 mocktails, right?

Egg, Bacon, Biscotti

This coconut mousse is placed inside white chocolate shell then filled with passion jelly. Toasted biscotti and crispy beef bacon completes the set. I already had some of the jelly when I realized I still haven’t taken a photo! Hah. (major blogging crime!). In my opinion, when eating this dessert, you have to mix all the components together otherwise you’d find the coconut mousse too sweet. It really goes well with the salty beef bacon.

All Inclusive

For just AED 225, you get everything on the menu! 15 signature dishes, 5 desserts, mocktails, teas and water. The serving portions are relatively small which is fine because you can get everything from the menu. I like this concept a lot because you only get what you can eat. At any point you want to stop, you just stop ordering! No leftovers, no food wasted. (I hate wasting food!!)

Please tell me that AED225 includes unlimited alcoholic drinks otherwise, it’s a total rip off considering its location. That’s just way too expensive for me. :-p

Alcoholic drinks not included, I think. for AED 225 you can eat all of the 15 signature dishes and desserts … eat all you can. 😛

Still very expensive for me. I’d rather go for a Friday brunch of the same value with free flowing alcoholic drinks in an outdoor setting. :p

But then, that’s the cheap ass and the alcoholic in me talking. Lol.

I enjoyed Zuri and your company, Sheila!

You got good review here; makes me want to hide under my sheets the whole day in shame that I haven’t started mine.

    Will do the blogging soon!

Thanks for indirectly reminding me to be responsible always. 🙂
