Merry Christmas everyone!! Obviously this is a scheduled post. (I’m probably still sleeping right now because hey, it’s Christmas!!) Anyhoot, while I’m enjoying the rest of the day with family, here’s our Blogger in Focus for this week. The last Blogger in Focus post for 2014!!
Name: Joy Caasi
Location: Dubai
Blog: The Thrift Trip – www.thethrifttrip.com
How did you start blogging?
I initially started on Tumblr with a few decent followers way back in 2009 and shifted to another platform (Blogger) in 2010. My mentor at the internet industry in the Philippines encouraged me to start a blog and buy a domain name and so I did. I documented my island life when I moved in Boracay last January 2013 and took blogging with me here in Dubai when I moved December last year.
What do you write about?
Other than my personal ramblings and hole-in-the-wall finds, I write about thrift traveling and how to enjoy life simply with the company of people who inspire you.
Tips for new Bloggers?
Invest in a good domain name if you plan to really move forward in blogging. It’s also decent to have your own, personalized email address.
What are the challenges you face with blogging?
Finding your niche when you move to another place. It took me a while when I moved to Dubai and blogger groups on social networks helped a lot.
What do you do outside of blogging?
I’m a Digital Marketing Executive on weekdays and a hobbyist on weekend – either I take photos, search for places, make sure that my weekend is filled with activities to make sure I’m busy (it gets boring in Dubai sometimes).
Blogs you recommend my readers should read/follow?
I follow Design Love Fest for DIY ideas, Tricia Gosingtian for travel and fashion, and Secret Squirrel Food for food (she has great Instagram photos of food)! I also follow Pinay Flying High, Fork It Over Dubai, My Fash Diary and Find Me A Break for Dubai Blogs.
3 Random Facts about you
- I eat a lot – friends and colleagues can justify my (bad) eating habits. I find happiness in things that go in my tummy.
- I easily get fascinated with anything vintage (cars, doors, windows, kitchen pieces, accessories, etc) and ancient cultural heritage.
- I think I’m a born artist without knowing it. I appreciate visual arts and can make good ones too (I paint my heart out whenever I’m in the mood).
Follow Joy in Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Pinterest! See you next year guys!!
Hey there! I’m a mom of two who loves to crochet. Balancing work and motherhood is crazy, but I handle it with love and humor. With my eldest entering her tween years, the chaos just got a whole lot more interesting!
I’m fueled by coffee and dream of working from home. When I need to chill, I turn to my trusty essential oils. They’re my secret weapon for staying sane in the madness.
Join me for mom life, crochet, and my journey to work from home and retire before life passes me by.
