[This is part of our Switzerland trip in 2015. We are in Dubai as of this posting]
ROADTRIP!!
09.20.2015
This is going to be picture heavy. There’s nothing much to write about in this post because it involved a lot of driving, hopping on and off the car, taking photos and just having fun!
Just to give you an idea of what happened that day … this was our itinerary:
FIRST STOP: BERN
Capital of Switzerland and the Old City of Bern became a Unesco Heritage Site in 1983. Woohoo! Bucket List crossed.
We had our mini break in this park where the kids played chess … or at least they thought they did. Ha ha! After much needed coffee, we moved on to our next stop, which is:
THE CANTON OF FRIBOURG
This has to be one of the prettiest churches I’ve been to (I have not been to many … I know, I should!!) I offered a short prayer, marveled at the sights and hoped that I would remember everything so I can write about it!! It’s just amazing.
We walked around for a bit then hopped on the car again to go to:
MONTREUX
Montreux is a municipality in the Canton of Vaud, on Lake Geneva and at the foot of the Alps.
Montreux is such a beautiful place. We just kept walking and taking photos. We checked out the market but I wasn’t really keen to buy anything. But I did get some churros. LOL.
We also went to the nearby Château de Chillon (Chillon Castle) which is one of the most visited castles in Switzerland.
The castle is open for the public where they recreated some interiors of the main rooms. The dungeon and crypt gave me chills. But the view overlooking Lake Geneva is breathtaking!
We took a break and had some gelato at the entrance of the castle, watching people pass by. Then we got on the car and proceeded to:
LAVAUX VINEYARD TERRACES
Another UNESCO Heritage Site crossed off my list!
The Lavaux consist of 830 hectares of terraced vineyards that stretch for about 30 km along the south-facing northern shores of Lake Geneva. – Wikipedia
I don’t eat grapes but I was so excited to be here! I’m sure it’s not allowed but we tasted the produce (sorry!!) It was so sweet and delightful that we had to stop ourselves.
It was getting late by this time and we couldn’t afford to have another stop over because we still have a long way to go to get to our hotel in La Clusaz. So from here, it was non stop driving (for “A”‘s brother in law!) We passed by Geneva, the second most populated city in Switzerland. We actually got stuck in traffic while there.
As soon as we got out of the city, the drive was smooth and quick. Till we got to the part where the roads started going crazy with twists and turns. I admit that this scared the $hit out of me. I think I have not prayed so hard in my entire life. Imagine driving in the dark, twisting and turning on a two-way road, which one side of it is a cliff that doesn’t have concrete barriers! I survived the ordeal by closing my eyes and covering my mouth. I had to shut up coz they were thisclose to knocking me unconscious.
It was already dark when we got to our hotel in the pretty town of La Clusaz.
The hotel/apartment was fully furnished so just cooked some food, had dinner and crashed in early.
Watch out for my next post!

Hey there! I’m a mom of two who loves to crochet. Balancing work and motherhood is crazy, but I handle it with love and humor. With my eldest entering her tween years, the chaos just got a whole lot more interesting!
I’m fueled by coffee and dream of working from home. When I need to chill, I turn to my trusty essential oils. They’re my secret weapon for staying sane in the madness.
Join me for mom life, crochet, and my journey to work from home and retire before life passes me by.
