The average woman applies 300 chemicals to her body a day; 80 before breakfast.
U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Top 10 Killer Household Chemicals Study.
When I read the excerpt from that study, I immediately looked at the ingredients of my body lotion and face creams. Would you believe that the top 10 most dangerous chemicals in our home are also found in beauty supplies and personal care products?
Let’s set aside the obvious chemical cleaning supplies we use around the house, but intentionally putting toxins on your skin and face?! No. Just NO.

DIY Whipped Body Butter
I did a little research and found a recipe for body butter that is super easy and its infused with essential oils. YAS!!
This has only 3 ingredients: Coconut oil, Shea Butter, Essential Oils. Easy peasy. I added some vitamin E oil because that’s good for skin. You’ll also need clean containers to put your product. I reused an empty container of strawberry jam. 😛
Recipe for Whipped Body Butter:
Ingredients:
1 cup organic coconut oil
1 cup shea butter
15 drops of your favorite essential oils – (I only use this brand)
Procedure:
+ Melt coconut oil and shea butter on a medium saucepan over medium heat or double boiler.
+ Pour into a mixing bowl (anything but plastic bowls) and place inside the refrigerator until set but not hard. This will take about 30 – 45 minutes.
+ Add your essential oils*
+ Using an electric hand mixer, whip until firm peaks form. This takes about 10 minutes.
+ Transfer to a clean sealable container and store at room temperature.
You can now apply this to your dry skin.
Just a few notes:
I cut the above recipe in half coz I tend to get lazy with my skincare so it’s better to start small. Also, I did some reading and this recipe can also be used as face cream. Win!!
*For Body Butter I used the following essential oils: Cypress, Tangerine, and Grapefruit. These oils are perfect for circulation and cellulite reduction.
*For Face Cream, I used Frankincense, Lavender and Ylang Ylang. These three are super beneficial for skin and they smell heavenly!
Enjoy!!
