Here’s my post on B’s cake. As mentioned before, I will make separate posts for the cake and the sugar cookies because these were firsts for me. To start, you should head over to Cuddles and Crumbs for the recipe for the chocolate cake. That was all her. I had no participation in the baking of the cake itself because I’m stuck in the office during daytime. (Besides, I am more interested in doing the fondant … 😀 )
The fondant was store-bought (We got it from Tavola, Fondarrrific brand) because we did not have the luxury of time to dabble on making our own fondant from scratch. It wasn’t too hard to handle … at first …
…but when we transferred it on to the cake, it started acting weird. It didn’t come out smooth which is a big disappointment and we couldn’t start over again because the party is next day.
We just took deep breaths and carried on. We would have wanted a perfect cake, free from wrinkles, but I’m just going to use the “hey-it’s-my-first-time-to-use-fondant-give-me-a-break” card. I need to know what we did wrong though… was it the brand??? was there something wrong with the temperature? what? If you have answers, please let me know!!
The details were our idea. We ditched the pattern that we got from the internet because I wanted something unique. We just added shapes and flowers, leaves and whatever so this is definitely one of a kind. 😀
Everybody loved the cake. (I did!! It was torture when they asked me to slice it already… huhuhu!!)
I couldn’t find a proper cake board (?) so we improvised. We used styrofoam board covered with aluminum foil. We extended the fondant on to the base and added the ribbon on the edges a few hours before guests started to arrive. (That is why the ends of the ribbon are in front!! Amateur mistake!)
This was a big cake and we had leftovers for days! Not complaining because it is really delish!!
Hey there! I’m a mom of two who loves to crochet. Balancing work and motherhood is crazy, but I handle it with love and humor. With my eldest entering her tween years, the chaos just got a whole lot more interesting!
I’m fueled by coffee and dream of working from home. When I need to chill, I turn to my trusty essential oils. They’re my secret weapon for staying sane in the madness.
Join me for mom life, crochet, and my journey to work from home and retire before life passes me by.

That’s actually an amazing cake for a beginner; you should give yourself enough credit.
